Bondada Engineering wins 100 MWh vanadium flow battery project in India

Bondada Engineering has won a contract to deploy a 100 MWh vanadium redox flow battery energy storage system (BESS) in western India.

Bondada Engineering, a renewable energy company in India, has secured an order from NTPC Renewable Energy Ltd. for the development of a 100 MWh vanadium redox flow BESS at the Khavda Solar Park in Gujarat.

The project will be executed with Delectrik Systems as the technology partner and includes 10 years of operations & maintenance (O&M). The system will be completely designed, engineered and manufactured in India.

Designed to support the integration of renewable energy into the national grid, the project will leverage vanadium redox flow batteries, which is one of the most promising large-scale energy storage technologies due to their long cycle life, high recyclability, and safety credentials. The technology also aligns with Bharat’s vision of strengthening energy security by reducing long-term dependence on imported cells from significantly limited sources, through the utilization of domestic vanadium resources or import from diverse sources.

India has set a target of deploying approximately 236 GWh of battery energy storage systems by 2030, compared to the country’s current installed capacity of nearly 3.3 GWh. As renewable energy capacity expands rapidly, long-duration energy storage technologies such as vanadium redox flow battery energy storage system are expected to play a critical role in ensuring grid stability and enabling the country’s clean energy transition.
