R.Power moves two Polish BESS projects into construction
Independent power producer (IPP) R.Power has signed EPC contracts for two utility-scale battery storage projects in Poland: a 300 MW/1,200 MWh system in Dzięgielewo and a 250 MW/1,000 MWh system in Gdańsk. The company said both are four-hour battery energy storage systems and are scheduled to enter operation by late 2027 or early 2028.
Onde SA, a Polish EPC contractor, will build the Dzięgielewo project, while Esix, a Wrocław-based energy infrastructure company, will deliver the Gdańsk project. R.Power said the two projects are roughly twice the capacity and duration of Jedwabno and Scornicești, the company’s first utility-scale battery projects, which entered construction earlier this year. Together, R.Power said, the new projects bring its under-construction battery storage portfolio across Central and Eastern Europe to more than 800 MW/2,750 MWh.
“Dzięgielewo and Gdańsk mark another important step in the execution of our battery storage strategy, building on the project finance and commercialization success we’ve already achieved for Jedwabno and Scornicești,” said Marcin Pajewski, board member and chief technical officer at R.Power. “As our largest CEE BESS assets to date, they further strengthen our position as one of the region’s leading battery storage developers and reflect the growing maturity of the market.”
Both projects are backed by capacity market contracts secured through Poland’s auctions, with delivery beginning in 2029, R.Power said. Dzięgielewo also carries an optimization agreement with Axpo, and the company said the projects are supported by state grants and green bond financing.
R.Power, founded in 2010 and headquartered in Warsaw, said it has 1.9 GW of projects operational or under construction. The company’s long-term equity investment partners include the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the Three Seas Initiative Investment Fund, advised by Amber Infrastructure.
R.Power broke ground on its first utility-scale battery project, Jedwabno, in March. It signed its earlier optimization agreement with Axpo for that 150 MW/300 MWh project in May, the template the company has now scaled up for Dzięgielewo.
