Spanish renewable energy producer Prosolia Energy has commissioned a battery energy storage system (BESS) at its Albispark solar plant in Castelo Branco, central-eastern Portugal. The project combines a 15 MW battery system with 60 MWh of storage capacity and an existing 34.4 MWp solar installation.

Connected directly to the 150 kV high-voltage transmission grid, the hybrid project is, according to the company, one of the largest renewable energy hybrid installations currently operating in Portugal. Prosolia Energy said it strengthens the growing role of energy storage in Europe’s energy transition.

The system uses technology supplied by Trina Storage. Designed for large-scale applications, the solution integrates monitoring and energy management systems to optimize plant operation and interaction with the electricity grid.

The project was selected as one of the beneficiaries of Portugal’s Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR) through the C21 – REPowerEU program, which aims to strengthen grid flexibility and accelerate renewable energy integration.
