Solaria wins environmental nod for 600 MW solar-plus-storage project in Italy

Spanish developer Solaria has secured environmental approval for a 600 MW agrivoltaics project in southern Italy that will pair solar generation with 325 MW of battery energy storage and a planned 400 MW data center.

Solaria has secured environmental approval for its proposed Spinazzola agrivoltaics project in southern Italy, clearing a key permitting milestone for one of the company’s largest solar developments in Europe.

The project will combine up to 600 MW of solar generation with 325 MW of battery energy storage and a planned 400 MW data center, reflecting Solaria’s strategy of integrating renewable generation, storage and digital infrastructure.

The approval adds to about 300 MW of Italian solar capacity that Solaria says is already ready for construction. The portfolio includes the 146 MW Garaguso project, the 81 MW Palermo project, and several smaller installations.

Solaria said Italy is one of its priority markets for international expansion. During its most recent Capital Markets Day, the company said it aims to secure environmental approvals for 1 GW of projects in the country over the coming months.
