Copec EMOAC’s Chilean PPAs include overnight clean energy from Metlen

The agreements will diversify renewable energy supply for Copec clients in key sectors. The most recent power purchase agreement (PPA) signed with Metlen integrate battery storage to supply exclusively nighttime power from 2026.

Greek energy firm Mytilineos Energy & Metals (Metlen), through its Chilean subsidiary, has secured a 15-year PPA with electric utility Copec EMOAC for the annual supply of 450 GWh of renewable electricity from four solar plants in Chile. Delivery will begin in the second quarter of 2026 and will be supported by 322 MW of Metlen’s proprietary battery energy storage systems (BESS).

Supply will be provided exclusively during a “non-solar block,” which runs from 7:00 p.m. to 7:59 a.m. in the winter and from 10:00 p.m. to 6:59 a.m. in the summer, a period during which solar production declines and demand for alternative sources increases.

The agreement seeks to provide predictability in Copec EMOAC’s energy supply during low solar generation periods, via energy stored and dispatched during the nighttime power cycle. The contract strengthens diversification of Chile’s energy mix by using battery storage to improve supply management.

Copec EMOAC last week signed a 100% renewable energy supply agreement with Clínica MEDS. The contract guarantees the supply of energy to all of the clinic’s medical centers, offices, and services, covering the energy demands of its operations and healthcare services. The energy supplied comes from solar, wind, and hydroelectric sources and is backed by traceability systems verifying its renewables status.

Copec EMOAC has also signed a 100% renewable energy supply agreement with Vivo SpA to supply the latter’s shopping centers. The commitment covers the operation of all the company’s establishments and reflects the retail sector’s focus on consuming certified renewable energy.

Copec EMOAC in May signed a six-year agreement with Movistar Chile for the supply of 100% renewable energy. That partnership includes energy traceability, digital monitoring, and international certification.
