AlphaESS launches modular energy storage system for small C&I users
AlphaESS has launched the StaX-M29.9/M50, a modular energy storage system designed for small commercial and industrial (C&I) customers. With power ratings of 29.9 kW and 50 kW and scalable capacity up to 216.9 kWh, the system is tailored for businesses seeking flexible energy storage solutions without the complexity of installation.
The system features a stackable, plug-and-play architecture, enabling rapid on-site assembly and simplified commissioning. Its 12 kWh modular battery design allows users to incrementally expand capacity as their energy needs grow. The StaX-M29.9 supports configurations ranging from 6 to 18 battery modules, while the StaX-M50 supports 9 to 18 modules, with a maximum of 12 modules per column and up to two columns per system.
Each module comes with an integrated battery management system (BMS) featuring automatic dynamic cell balancing to enhance efficiency and extend battery life. The system also incorporates AlphaESS Bypass Technology, which automatically isolates any faulty modules without interrupting overall system operation.
The manufacturer says the new battery solution is optimized for applications such as solar self-consumption, peak shaving, backup power, and dynamic tariff management. For critical power needs, the StaX-M29.9/M50 supports UPS-level backup switching in under 10 milliseconds, ensuring businesses can maintain uninterrupted operations during grid outages.
The StaX-M29.9/M50 battery can be installed separately from the inverter at a maximum distance of 20 meters, enabling nearly silent operation. Its compact design also allows the system to pass through elevators, narrow corridors, and confined indoor spaces.
The StaX-M29.9/M50 is designed for both indoor and outdoor commercial environments. For outdoor use, it features an IP66-rated enclosure and can operate in ambient temperatures from –20°C to 50°C, with integrated battery heating to ensure stable performance in harsh weather conditions.
The system can be delivered using a standard van or pickup and installed without cranes or ground foundations, significantly reducing logistics costs, civil works, and permitting requirements, according to AlphaESS. Each battery measures 550 × 615 × 250 mm and weighs 90 kg.
The StaX-M29.9/M50 integrates with AlphaCloud, AlphaESS’s cloud-based energy management platform, offering real-time monitoring of solar generation, battery status, and energy consumption, along with remote diagnostics and predictive maintenance. The system also supports dynamic electricity tariff platforms, including Octopus Energy, enabling intelligent charging during low-price periods and discharging during peak-price windows.
Built on LFP (LiFePO₄) battery chemistry, the StaX-M29.9/M50 complies with international standards including IEC 62619, IEC 62040, the IEC 61000 series, and UL 9540A.
The system is designed for 8,000 cycles, with an end-of-life (EOL) capacity retention of 70%. It is backed by a five-year product warranty and a ten-year battery warranty.
