Project Applications ESS News

The global pipeline of energy storage projects is growing rapidly across a variety of market segments, including distributed, grid-scale, off-grid and second-life projects.

From increasing solar self-consumption, reducing consumption peaks, providing flexibility to the electricity system, to deferring costly investments in transmission and distribution infrastructure, the range of applications which energy storage devices can provide is constantly evolving.

To build a robust business case, however, most storage facilities need to provide several services.

A different kind of volatility: battery revenues stay strong April was defined by solar-driven oversupply and recurring negative prices. May told a different story. Wind generation dropped sharply, wholesale prices climbed, and ancillary services gained importance as the system searched for flexibility. Yet battery revenues barely moved. Lennard Wilkening, CEO of suena energy, explains why this is another reminder that successful battery trading depends less on any single market regime than on the ability to adapt across them.
