Can sodium-ion storage drive energy flexibility in France?
France’s Association Environnement Juste has proposed a storage mandate for renewables projects exceeding 10 kWp in order to integrate flexibility at the source. The association argues European sodium-ion batteries could present an economically and environmentally viable solution, capable of stabilizing grids without depending on imported metals.
2D carbon selenide offers route to competitive sodium-ion batteries
Researchers at TU Delft propose using 2D carbon selenide as a sodium-ion battery anode, offering a theoretical capacity of 589 mAh/g with minimal volume expansion. Computational studies confirmed the material’s structural and thermal stability, as well as tunable electrochemical properties, making it a promising candidate for large-scale, renewable-linked energy storage.

50MW/100MWh Sodium-ion ESS goes online in China with string PCS MV stations
In the Hubei province in China, 50MW/100MWh is just the first phase of the sodium-ion battery energy storage system (BESS) project spearheaded by Sineng Electric. The project should eventually have a storage capacity of 100MW/200MWh. The initial capacity has already been connected to the grid and begun operations, able to supply power to around 12,000 households for a whole day.
