Chile: Plans outlined for 405 MW lithium-ion BESS
The 405 MW, lithium-ion “Pueblo Hundido BESS energy storage system and transmission line” project has been submitted for environmental impact assessment (EIA) in Chile’s Atacama region.
No figure was given for the energy storage capacity of the facility.
The site, planned for the commune of Diego de Almagro, will require a 21 km, 220kV electricity transmission line and connection at the Cumbre substation, according to EIA documents.
The site is set to be operating from Oct. 5, 2026 and will have a 25-year project life. It is intended to store electricity generated by unspecified PV plants for reinjection into the grid when required.
The utility-scale BESS is expected to require 200 workers during peak construction and four to eight staff will be required once the site is operational.
