The Vidyut Vyapar Nigam Ltd division of India’s National Thermal Power Company (NTPC) is tendering 250 MW/1 GWh of standalone, grid-connected BESS.

NTPC is offering 12-year battery energy discharge purchase agreements to successful bidders, who will have to arrange their own battery charging sources and can set up the BESS anywhere in India and connect to the Interstate Transmission System (ISTS) system via an ISTS substation. The electricity provided to NTPC will be sold on power exchanges, onto state electricity distribution companies, or used to strengthen the grid via the national Tertiary Reserve Ancillary Services system.

The successful bidders will construct the BESS on a build, own, operate basis and the sites will be eligible for central government VGF, which is supplied to help infrastructure projects be financially viable.

NTPC may double the volume of BESS capacity available, depending on demand for the procurement exercise.
