GreenGo gets green light for 80 MW of battery storage in Italy

GreenGo has received authorization from the Italian Ministry of Environment and Energy Security for two new standalone battery energy storage facilities. The company’s pipeline of energy storage projects in southern Italy now exceeds 500 MWh.
The Bologna-based IPP plans to participate in the upcoming MACSE auctions, specifically the first procuremen which will focus on the South and the Islands.
The two approved storage systems are the 30 MW/120 MWh Montagna BESS in Catanzaro, Calabria, and the 50 MW/200 MWh Tagliata in Foggia, Apulia region. The company has another BESS development which is likely to participate in the MACSE auction.
“Cuvelli, Tagliata and Montagna represent our first important batch of BESS projects, for a total of approximately 130 MW. These are initiatives located in proximity to other renewable energy plants very close to existing Terna substations”, said Fabio Amico, member of the Board of Directors.
He said that the authorization process for the two projects was completed within two years of the submission of the requests.
GreenGo’s pipeline now includes 85 renewable projects in 11 regions totalling 1.82 GW. This fugure includes 800 MW in advanced approval stages and more than 560 MW of approved/ready-to-build projects, of which 40 MW are under construction. GreenGo expects to reach a 2.5 GW piepline by 2025. It is now targeting PV projects in Northern Italy for over 700 MW in the coming quarters.
