Reliance Power solar-plus-storage site to include 1.86 GWh of batteries

The Reliance Power Ltd unit of Indian entertainment-to-healthcare conglomerate Reliance Group today announced subsidiary Reliance NU Suntech has secured a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA) from government body the Solar Energy Corp. of India (SECI) for a 930 MW (AC) solar project with a 465 MW/1.86 GWh BESS.
The project will deliver assured solar power supply during peak hours (for four hours daily) at a competitive fixed tariff of INR 3.53/kWh. With a planned capital investment of up to INR 100 billion, it will be Asia’s largest single-location integrated solar and BESS project. The project is set for commissioning within the next 24 months.
To meet the contracted capacity of 930 MW (AC), Reliance NU Suntech will deploy over 1.7 GWp of solar generation capacity.
Reliance NU Suntech won the project in SECI’s Tranche XVII auction through a tariff-based competitive bidding process. The auction attracted bids from five major energy companies for a total of 2 GW of inter-state transmission system (ISTS)-connected solar projects and 1 GW/4 GWh of BESS capacity.
“Reliance Power has successfully submitted a performance bank guarantee (PBG) of INR [3.78 billion] to SECI. The entire bidding process – from the reverse auction to the issuance of the Letter of Award (LoA) and the signing of the PPA – was completed in under five months,” the company stated.
