Eku Energy commissions 111 MWh of UK battery storage in two projects
Eku Energy has commissioned two UK battery energy storage system (BESS) projects, adding a combined 67MW / 111MWh of capacity to provide balancing services for the national grid. The sites in Basildon, Essex, and Loudwater, Buckinghamshire, are now fully operational.
The Loudwater project is a 39MW / 55MWh system, with energy trading managed by Statkraft Energy. The 28MW / 56MWh Basildon project is Eku Energy’s first two-hour duration battery in the UK and will have its trading managed by Habitat Energy. For both projects, NHOA Energy supplied the BESS equipment and will provide long-term operations and maintenance services, while ESM Power acted as the Balance of Plant contractor.
“The commissioning of Loudwater BESS and Basildon BESS creates diversity of our operating portfolio in the United Kingdom,” said Eku Energy CEO Daniel Burrows. “Our growing operating portfolio creates further opportunities to support our customers by structuring innovative long term contracts.”
Lucie Kanius-Dujardin, global managing director of NHOA Energy, added, “These projects exemplify how trusted, high-performance partnerships are essential for the energy transition. The delivery of both sites in parallel required close coordination between NHOA Energy and Eku Energy.”
Eku Energy is jointly owned by a Macquarie Asset Management managed fund and British Columbia Investment Management Corporation (BCI).
