Swiss 65 MWh battery takes shape

Intilion has delivered the grid-scale battery energy storage system (BESS) from Asia; via Rotterdam, inland waterways, and a warehouse near the project site.

German system integrator Intilion has delivered all the components for one of Switzerland’s largest standalone BESS.

“In addition to the battery containers; transformers, inverters, controllers, cabling, and other accessories have also arrived at the project site in Kappel,” the company said on Tuesday.

Intilion received the 25 MW/65 MWh BESS order from Swiss energy company Primeo Energie in December. At that point, construction was set to begin in spring this year.

Intilion carried out component delivery and international transport from the BESS factory in China, including customs formalities and approvals. The use of a warehouse near the project site, requested by Primeo Energie, enabled construction-area delivery flexibility, in line with progress at the site.

Transport of the BESS from Rotterdam to Birsfelden was carried out by inland waterway, rather than road, eliminating cross-border approval procedures such as those for special transports.

The project components will be assembled, wired, and installed before commissioning.
