Sungrow unveils new modular C&I battery with long-duration storage capability
Sungrow has introduced its latest commercial and industrial (C&I) battery energy storage solution, the PowerKeeper series, offering a one-stop DC-coupled system with a modular design. Based on Sungrow’s ‘Ace 007, Ace Profit’ concept, PowerKeeper is designed to deliver zero waste, zero outages, and a seamless operational experience across seven key benefits.
The system’s 12.5 kWh pack-based design supports flexible configurations up to 250 kWh per system. A single hybrid inverter covers 50–1,000 kWh capacity for 2–8 hours, with multiple inverters allowing unlimited expansion. An optional long-duration combiner box accommodates 2–4 clusters, expandable to 1,000 kWh and 8 hours of storage.
According to Sungrow, this scalability enables precise capacity matching, reduces oversizing, and lowers upfront costs, making the system suitable for applications ranging from small shops to large factories.
Customers can choose between a 12.5 kWh single module or a 50 kWh pre-built stack. The design supports manual handling in confined spaces and forklift operations in open areas. Pre-assembled modules with simplified wiring significantly reduce installation time, supporting both new and retrofit projects, while active balancing allows a mix of new and aged modules. The built-in authomatic transfer switch (ATS) supports up to 250 kW load – enough for a 2,500 m² supermarket – without extra cabinets, saving space and cost.
PowerKeeper operates with a nominal voltage range of 32.4 V–43.8 V and a nominal charge/discharge rate of 0.5 P. It can switch to off-grid mode in 10 milliseconds, ensuring uninterrupted operations.
The 12.5 kWh system weighs less than 90 kg and measures 800 mm × 270 mm × 405 mm. It is designed for reliable operation in water up to 50 cm deep, meeting IP66 and C5 protection standards, supporting temperatures from –20 °C to 50 °C, and offering Type I + II lightning resistance.
Safety and monitoring are provided through 5D alerts – tracking current, voltage, cell temperature, NTC high-temperature detection, and safety sensors – alongside triple-guard protection at the cell, pack, and station levels.
PowerKeeper supports a wide range of applications, including PV & ESS, ESS & EV charging, microgrid & backup, and stand-alone C&I ESS. It enables multiple revenue streams, such as self-consumption, arbitrage, FFR, and demand control. AI-driven modes optimize operational strategies based on real-time electricity prices, generation forecasts, and load predictions, maximizing revenue efficiently.
To date, Sungrow has deployed over 1,000 C&I energy storage projects worldwide, including 200 projects across Europe, covering standalone ESS, PV+ESS, and PV+ESS+EV charging applications.
With a diverse customer base spanning multiple industries, capacity requirements, and financial priorities, Sungrow highlights the growing importance of flexible, scalable solutions in the C&I space and expects strong uptake in this market segment. According to Wood Mackenzie, Europe’s C&I storage capacity is expected to grow 13-fold, reaching 33 GW/77 GWh by 2034.
