Fox ESS opens second factory in Wenzhou as global BESS demand grows

Chinese BESS manufacturer reports automation at new plant has markedly reduced time on the line. Located in Wenzhou, a port city in southeastern Zhejiang province, the plant will focus on battery energy storage system (BESS) products according to Fox ESS.

Fox ESS has expanded its manufacturing operations in Wenzhou, China, expanding production capacity in the wake of a record year for global BESS additions.

The phase-two site spans approximately 46,000 m² and the Chinese manufacturer said it has been designed to support “intelligent, large-scale manufacturing.”

Fox ESS’s Wenzhou plant is focused on both R&D and manufacturing across print circuit board assembly, battery products and commercial and industrial (C&I) energy storage. BESS products will be the core focus for the phase-two section of the Wenzhou site, according to Fox ESS, as the company pursues a global expansion strategy.

As well as expanding its manufacturing footprint, Fox ESS claims the automated production system integrated at its new site has significantly reduced the time from receiving raw materials on the production line to commissioning – down from 30 minutes to within 5 minutes. The facility is capable of delivering one battery pack every 7 seconds, according to Fox ESS, with an overall automation level of over 60%.

In a press release, Michael Zhu, CEO of Fox ESS, said completing the phase-two factory demonstrates the company’s “firm commitment” to the global energy transition.

“We will continue to invest in R&D to deliver higher-quality products and faster timelines, helping clean energy reach more households to create a more resilient future.”

Fox ESS markets a range of modular battery storage products in global markets, including product lines targeted at the residential and C&I segments. The company also produces micro- hybrid- and PV-inverters and has heat pump and EV charger products within its portfolio.
