Green Flexibility acquires 3 GWh battery storage portfolio in Germany

Green Flexibility has partnered with German battery storage developer Kajoni on a portfolio of projects totaling 750 MW of power and 3 GWh of storage capacity that are currently progressing through Germany’s new grid connection maturity process for large-scale battery projects.

Under the terms of the agreement, Kajoni will continue developing the projects to ready-to-build status, while Green Flexibility will provide capital during the development phase before assuming responsibility for construction, operation, and commercialization of the battery energy storage systems.

Germany’s transmission system operators introduced the maturity process this year to allocate grid connections for large-scale battery storage projects. The first application round opened in April, replacing the previous system with a more capital-intensive development process.

Green Flexibility said the transaction strengthens its position as a long-term investor, developer, and operator of large-scale battery storage projects in Germany, with a strategy of retaining assets through construction and long-term operation.

Separately, the company announced a fourth partnership with a German municipal utility. Together with Stadtwerke Menden, it will build a 10 MW/25 MWh battery energy storage system in western Germany. Construction is scheduled to begin in September, with commissioning expected in the second quarter of 2027.
