Cero Generation secures £200M for UK battery storage and solar portfolio

European solar energy developer Cero Generation, alongside its UK development partner, Enso Energy, has announced it has secured approximately £200 million (USD 268.5 million) in green financing to advance a portfolio of co-located solar PV and battery energy storage system (BESS) projects across the UK, with the first project, Bramley, located in Hampshire, slated to begin construction in autumn 2025.
Backed by a consortium of lenders comprising ING, NordLB, Rabobank and Santander UK, the financing supports three initial sites totaling 360 MW of combined capacity, including the Bramley Project (115MW co-located solar and storage) and two other near-term projects (announced as “a combined capacity of 245MW of BESS and solar PV”).
Structured as a Green Loan, the financing includes an accordion facility to accommodate additional projects. All three projects meet criteria in the EU Taxonomy for sustainable activities, meaning they meet stringent environmental and social criteria.
The Bramley Project will bring together industry leaders including EDF, LONGi, Sungrow, Metlen and Omexom. EDF will optimize the battery and provide route-to-market services for the solar PV component. LONGi will supply the solar modules and Sungrow Europe will deliver the BESS, likely from its PowerTitan series. Metlen will serve as engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor, with Omexom managing grid connections.
Cero has also announced a £50,000 community fund to provide direct benefits for nearby residents.
Marta Martinez Queimadelos, CEO of Cero Generation, said that it was a privilege to work with key partners for the three projects.
“This milestone reflects our continued commitment to UK solar and our ambition to deliver projects that meet the highest environmental standards, including EU Taxonomy alignment,” Queimadelos said.
“We are proud to be working with such experienced partners across development, financing, and delivery, and we thank them for their critical contributions to these projects. Together, we are accelerating the transition to a more sustainable and resilient energy system.”
ING continues to make a strong global commitment to financing solar and BESS projects, including providing the majority sum for the Antares project in the Netherlands.
“It’s great to have supported Cero Generation with the financing of their latest portfolio of co-located solar and BESS projects,” said Sylvan Jonker, Head of Renewables & Power NL at ING.
“This transaction marks another step forward in ING’s commitment to accelerate the energy transition and deliver flexible, resilient, and sustainable power solutions for the UK.”
Cero Generation was advised by CMS (Sponsor’s Counsel), EvoInfra (Financial Modelling support) and PMC Treasury (Hedging and Risk Adviser), while the lender group received advisory support from Dentons (Lender’s Legal Adviser), Wood (Lenders Technical Adviser) and Marsh (Lender’s Insurance Adviser).
