Hithium enters Nordic market with 3 GWh supply deal
Chinese energy storage specialist Hithium has signed a major supply deal with Norway-based EPC contractor Bertel O. Steen Power Solutions (BOS Power) to deliver 3 GWh of battery energy storage systems (BESS) for projects across Denmark, Sweden, Finland, and Norway through 2027.
The agreement encompasses a pipeline of projects ranging from 30 MWh and above, and marks Hithium’s official entry into the Nordic market. The company will supply its portfolio of DC block solutions, including the ∞Power 6.25 MWh 2h/4h BESS and ∞Block 5 MWh BESS.
Unveiled in December 2024, Hithium’s latest generation product – ∞Power 6.25MWh BESS – can be configured to two or four durations. In the 2-hour BESS scenario, the battery cell is 587 Ah, while in the 4-hour BESS scenario, it is 1175 Ah – the latter being the highest capacity cell currently on the market.
Hithium recently achieved mass production and delivery of its next-generation ∞Cell 1175Ah and 587Ah, setting new industry benchmarks.
Founded in 2019, Hithium’s rapid ascent has not been without challenges. In July, CATL, the world’s largest battery manufacturer, filed a lawsuit accusing its fast-growing rival of unfair competition – a move that could jeopardize the Hithium’s planned IPO in Hong Kong.
The lawsuit alleges that Hithium systematically poached CATL’s technical personnel and developed battery products – notably the 587 Ah cell – with specifications nearly identical to CATL’s own patented designs. CATL claims the energy density deviation between the two products is just 4.4%, well below the 10% technical threshold typically used to differentiate original designs from potential infringements.
Meanwhile, Hithium has continued to grow its global footprint emerging as one of the world’s largest BESS suppliers. According to InfoLink Consulting, CATL and Hithium ranked as the top two suppliers of utility-scale storage cells in the first half of 2025. Meanwhile, in the DC system segment, Hithium took the third place following CATL and BYD.
The latest partnership is further strengthening Hithium’s global reach. Under the deal, the Chinese manufacturer will provide technical training to BOS Power and authorize it as a certified service provider, ensuring localized operational support and customer service throughout the Nordic region.
The first project under the agreement is already under construction in Denmark, representing Hithium’s first deployment in the region and a strategic step in expanding its European presence.
