Jackery has introduced the Explorer 500 v2 at IFA 2025 in Berlin, updating one of its longest-standing models with a new design, a new lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery chemistry, and extended cycle life.

The Explorer 500 has been part of Jackery’s line-up for years and was one of its first workhorse portable power stations. Its overdue replacement, the Explorer 500 v2, brings the necessary upgrades to make this a big update, with a 512 Wh battery, 500 W continuous output (1,000 W peak), and a compact 5.7 kg form factor in a new design.

The improvement to focus on is the cell technology. Jackery’s press release notes that the new LFP pack has a ceramic multi-layer membrane, and the details are many.

Jackery says the membrane combines an open-pore structure with heat-resistant protective coatings, allowing for lower-temperature operation, including discharging at –20 °C. This combination, says the company, extends cell life and is safer.

Jackery adds that the new packs have a zirconia reinforcement of the cell membrane to prevent short circuits, and Jackery adds that there are “phase-change microcapsules against overheating.” It also has a fire- and shock-resistant housing compliant with the UL94V-0 standard.”

The company further states the design achieves 6,000 cycles to 70% capacity retention, which is roughly double the lifespan of the previous generation Explorer 500.

In terms of connectivity, the Explorer 500 v2 offers two AC outlets, two USB-C ports(100 W and 30 W), one USB-A port, and a 12 V socket. AC recharging takes 80 minutes (0–80% in just under an hour). Solar charging is up to 200 W, and is roughly eight times faster than the original Explorer 500.

Design-wise and physically, the v2 is 29% smaller than its predecessor at 31 cm by 20.5cm by 15.6 cm, and weighs 5.7kg, down from 6kg. It incorporates a folding handle, and the new build has a flat top, resembling carrying around a toolbox or a lunch box:

Pricing, availability

With a recommended retail price of €449 and £449, the Explorer 500 v2 sits in the middle of Jackery’s updated v2 portfolio. The company positions the device for both consumer applications and as an entry point for light professional or emergency backup use, where size and transportability are a factor.

Availability begins on September 19, following its IFA launch.
