‘UK heat pumps require massive energy storage fleet’
Researchers in the United Kingdom estimate around 175 TWh of hydrogen and compressed air energy storage (CAES) capacity will be needed to fully decarbonize heating in the country. Researcher Bruno Cardenas told pv magazine when domestic heat demand is fully electrified, average annual electricity demand and peak load in the grid will be 26% and 70% higher than current levels, respectively.

Falling prices, geopolitic risk define energy storage market
Speakers from the NetZero Milan Expo-Summit 2025, that opens tomorrow, have told pv magazine a falling lithium price is putting pressure on emerging battery alternatives such as sodium-ion as the industry shifts from incremental gains in performance to larger battery cells.

UK investor Gore Street energizes 400 MWh Californian battery
The battery backer said its 200 MW/400 MWh Big Rock project will start generating grid resource adequacy (RA) income in June 2025, its Dogfish site in Texas will be operational in February 2025, but there has been a delay to its Enderby project, in England.
