Longi has completed grid connection and commenced operations of its 13.75 MW/50.16 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) in Montalto di Castro, central Italy.

“The system is located in close proximity to an existing 35 MWp photovoltaic plant and represents the first deployment of a fully integrated storage system from Longi in Europe,” the Chinese company said.

The company emphasises that the AC-coupled discharge configuration enables the BESS to operate in parallel with the existing solar installation without requiring substantial structural modifications.

“The project combines multiple revenue mechanisms, while also ensuring enhanced grid security through a capacity market contract. Participation in capacity markets is expected to provide an additional and relatively stable revenue stream,” Longi added.

The project is supported by a comprehensive long-term service agreement (LTSA).

“This hybrid system reflects a shift taking place in Europe in the modernisation of renewable energy assets and demonstrates Longi Energy Storage’s capability to deliver integrated BESS solutions even in complex and mature energy markets,” the company said.

Longi added that it intends to continue expanding its presence in Europe.

In a separate statement, the company announced the opening of its Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Madrid, Spain, aimed at strengthening local support for its “PV + storage” solutions across Southern Europe.

“The Madrid Centre of Excellence serves as a comprehensive services hub, providing localised support for project development, operational management, technical training, and partnership development.”

By 2028, Longi plans to establish additional Centres of Excellence in key international markets.
