Green Flexibility buys 500 MW of battery storage projects in Germany
Green Flexibility and Hansa Battery have signed a framework agreement for the acquisition of five large-scale battery energy storage projects across Germany, with a cumulative power output of around 500 MW.
Under the agreement announced on Wednesday, Hamburg-based Hansa Battery will develop the projects up to construction readiness and secure binding grid reservations. Green Flexibility will then take over responsibility for implementation and operation of the battery storage systems.
A key aspect of the partnership is Green Flexibility’s contribution to the costs of securing the grid connection, including advance payments for the construction cost subsidy (BKZ). “We specifically participate in projects with binding grid reservations at all stages of development,” explained Christoph Lienert, co-founder and COO of Green Flexibility. “In doing so, we secure financing, contribute technical expertise where needed, and, as the future operator, help strengthen the confidence of authorities and grid operators.”
The collaboration combines development expertise with operational experience to accelerate the transition of suitable projects from the planning phase to construction and operation. Financial and strategic support is also provided through advance BKZ payments as part of the pre-financing of the grid connection.
Through this cooperation, Green Flexibility – which also develops its own storage projects – is expanding its portfolio and project pipeline. The Bavarian company said it will soon announce further details about its partner program, designed to support this portfolio growth.
