Sax Power doubles home battery production capacity in Germany

German residential battery maker Sax Power has built a second assembly hall in Erbach, near Ulm in the state of Baden-Württemberg, where Sax’s headquarters are.
The new 1,000 m2 facility will manufacture Sax’s new 7.7 kWh Home Plus product.
Sax Power told ESS News its original manufacturing hall could produce 5,000 of the battery products per year. The new one will also manufacture 5,000 per year but has the potential to produce a further 5,000 annually.
The official opening of the site will take place on April 4.
The Home Plus storage system uses multi-level technology to convert the direct current of the lithium ferro phosphate battery cells in the storage system into alternating current (AC). Each battery cell string is equipped with its own power switch, enabling all 24 strings to be individually switched on and off in a fraction of a second. At the output of the battery system, the voltages of the activated cell strings overlap to produce a sinusoidal AC, eliminating the need for a hybrid inverter.
The “Energy Storage Inspection 2025” exercise conducted by the Berlin University of Technology and Economics (HTW) found the multi-level technology used reduced conversion losses during charging and discharging. Across the operating range, HTW researchers said, the AC-coupled Home Plus battery exhibited the highest efficiency determined to date in the university’s energy storage inspection.
