Spain’s Cegasa unveils its first utility-scale battery

Spanish energy storage manufacturer Cegasa will participate in the Smarter E 2025 trade show, from May 7 to May 9 in Munich, Germany, and display its products at stand B1.409.
Cegasa’s lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries are designed at its technology center in Álava, in Spain’s Basque country, and manufactured in Europe.
The manufacturer will present the E/Xpand HV battery, in a rack-installed format, for C&I and large-scale energy storage systems of up to 5 MWh in scale. Cegasa defines the product as “the most versatile and efficient solution on the market for large-scale applications, thanks to its air-cooled modules that optimize system cycles.” The E/Xpand HV features a smart battery management system and an automatic pre-charge feature.
Designed for seamless integration into containerized solutions, the smallest installation consists of a seven-module string plus a control unit, totaling 100 kWh capacity and with a nominal 358 V. Nominal power is 72 kW, and the model weighs 970 kg.
The biggest E/Xpand HV model features 18 modules plus a control unit, with a 257 kWh capacity and a nominal voltage of 922 V. Up to eight strings can be connected together. Nominal power is 185 kW and the weight is 2,460 kg.
All models boast an efficiency of more than 98% and, in all cases, recommended current is 140 A, with a maximum 200 A, and peak current is 350 A. The product supports more than 6,000 cycles with an operating temperature of between -5 C and 45 C. The E/Xpand HV has an IP30 protection rating.
The standard rack design measures 19 inches and allows for multiple configurations.
The containerized solutions include 15 and 17 modules of 215 kWh and 243 kWh capacities.
Also on display will be Cegasa’s E/Scal HV batteries, for C&I energy storage; and the E/Bick LV Home, a “plug-and-play” battery for residential use.
