Sembcorp, HG Infra secure 900 MWh of tendered Indian battery capacity

The Green Infra business of Sembcorp Industries has received a letter of award from public hydropower utility SJVN for a 150 MW solar project with a 300 MWh BESS.
This build-own-operate project is part of SJVN’s tender for 1.2 GW of inter state transmission system-connected solar projects that must be accompanied by 600 MW/2.4 GWh of BESS capacity.
Subject to the execution of a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with SJVN, the project, upon completion, will supply solar power and support peak electricity demand for four hours daily through the BESS.
Commercial operations are expected to begin within 24 months from the date of signing the PPA.
“The project will be funded through a mixture of internal funds and debt,” stated Sembcorp. “This is Sembcorp’s second solar-energy storage hybrid project in India, increasing Sembcorp’s gross renewables capacity in India to 6.3 GW. Globally, Sembcorp’s total renewables portfolio has reached 17.7 GW, including acquisitions pending completion.”
H.G. Infra Engineering Ltd has announced that it has received a Letter of Intent from electric utility GUVNL for the development of a 300 MW/600 MWh standalone BESS in Gujarat. The project was awarded under GUVNL’s Phase VI auction for 500 MW/1 GWh of BESS capacity through a tariff-based competitive bidding process.
The project has a completion timeline of 24 months. The tariff is set at INR 285,600 ($3,336) per megawatt, with a contract duration of 12 years. The total project cost is estimated to be around INR 6.7 billion, plus taxes. Commissioning is scheduled by October 27.
This latest development follows H.G. Infra Engineering’s earlier success in securing a battery energy storage purchase agreement with GUVNL for a 250 MW/500 MWh BESS project, awarded under GUVNL’s Phase IV tender. That project is supported by the viability gap funding scheme, which supplies central government cash to help infrastructure projects be economically viable.
