The Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security (MASE) yesterday published authorization decrees for 273 MW of new battery energy storage systems (BESS). The projects are all in southern Italy, in Calabria, Campania, and Puglia.

The largest of the BESS approved is the San Sostene project, in the municipality of the same name. That 120 MW site is being managed by the DFD Green Srl project company acquired by GreenGo in March 2024.

The decrees

Ministerial Decree no. 55/60/2025 – Single authorization for A2a EnergieFutura Spa to build a 50 MW BESS in the municipality of Brindisi.

Ministerial Decree no. 55/61/2025 – Sole authorization to Neoen Renewables Italia Srl for the construction of the 102.6 MW Benevento 2 BESS plant in the municipality of Benevento.

Ministerial Decree no. 55/62/2025 – Sole authorization to DFD Green Srl for the construction of the 120 MW San Sostene BESS in the Municipality of San Sostene.

MASE last week authorized 198 MW of new BESS capacity in Campania and Basilicata and another 78 MW in Avetrana, Puglia. Those sites came after the ministry had greenlit more than 1 GW of BESS between Aug. 7 and Aug. 11.
