Repono acquires 404 MWh ready-to-build battery project in Romania
Repono has completed the acquisition of a 202 MW / 404 MWh standalone battery energy storage project in Argeș County, Romania. The Sweden-based operator said the deal expands its presence in Southeast Europe, with its Romanian projects under development now totaling up to 1.4 GW.
The RtB asset, developed by an unnamed Bucharest-based renewable energy company, holds a grid connection agreement with Transelectrica at the 220 kV Pitești Substation. Monsson Group and Renovatio Group are two of the most prominent Romanian companies that have specialities in this area, but confirmation was not obtained at the time of writing.
Energy commodities trader Gunvor, together with optimizer Enspired, will handle offtake and market optimization for the project. Legal support for the transaction was said to be provided by Romanian law firm RTPR.
“This transaction represents an important milestone for Repono AB and demonstrates our continued commitment to developing large-scale storage infrastructure that supports Europe’s energy transition,” said Karim Nils Grueber, CEO of Repono AB.
Harmen de Kool, Chairman of the Board of Repono AB and also a representative of investor InnoEnergy, added: “With this project, InnoEnergy’s aim to achieve carbon neutrality is further fortified. Large-scale storage assets like Argeș are key enablers of a stable and decarbonized European power system.”
Repono is also advancing projects in Germany, Italy, Austria, and Poland and has already announced a 1.4 GWh supply deal for its storage projects with HyperStrong. No financial terms were announced.
