The Saft battery-making subsidiary of French oil supermajor TotalEnergies has secured a contract to supply 356 MWh of its containerized batteries to a Taiwanese energy company.

Saft will supply 108 of its Modular Intensium-Shift (I-Shift) battery containers to a project in Taichung which will begin this year and continue through 2026. The deal marks Saft’s fifth contract award from the Foxwell Power company which is ultimately owned by electronics manufacturer Foxlink Group. The contract is also the French business’ eleventh project win in Taiwan.

Saft ESS (energy storage system) Sales Director Vincent Le Quintrec said the project would take the company to 630 MWh of energy storage capacity in Taiwan, once complete.

The French company stressed its contract win was in part secured by the cybersecurity credentials of a made-in-Europe control system that operates from module to system level.

Saft did not specify the technical features of of its battery energy storage system but an announcement by the company in September 2022 said its I-Shift containers can supply two- to eight-hour storage capacity.
