GoodWe has signed a deal with Kraken that will give the manufacturer’s UK customers access to a range of smart tariffs, as it gears up to capitalize on expected growth for residential battery storage demand.

The deal was announced at the launch ceremony for GoodWe’s Warm Home All-In-One Solution for the UK market – a product portfolio comprising PV building materials, EV chargers, heat pumps, and smart energy management, centered around an inverter and storage system such as GoodWe’s ESA All-In-One series.

GoodWe appears to be positioning its UK offer as a single-supplier solution for households that intend to take advantage of new government subsidy support for home energy upgrades.

Consumers in the United Kingdom will soon be eligible for a raft of support to upgrade their home energy efficiency through the government’s Warm Homes Plan – a policy that will make grants and loans available for technologies such as solar, battery storage, and heat pumps. GoodWe referenced the policy directly at its launch event, where it also held a signing ceremony with Kraken.

“The UK Warm Homes Plan sets a clear direction: to transform households into active energy units. This means homes are no longer consuming energy but also producing and managing it,” said Daniel Huang, founder and CEO of GoodWe.

Managing energy is partly facilitated through the partnership with Kraken. The deal means GoodWe products can be marketed as “Octopus-ready” and will be compatible with the utility’s range of smart tariffs. Kraken is the technology platform behind Octopus Energy’s smart tariffs, which comprise a selection of time-of-use tariff options. GoodWe also claim its all-in-one solution makes a 70% self-consumption rate possible for UK consumers.

Launch event attendees heard how demand for PV paired with storage was growing in the UK market, too. EUPD Research provided analysis of the UK market which forecast increased residential battery storage installations.

“Demand for residential solar in the UK is growing,” said Markus Hoehner, founder and CEO of EUPD Group.

“The market is structurally aligned for accelerated uptake of solar PV and battery storage. We see this trend being reinforced by installer behavior, with nearly all providers offering bundled PV and storage solutions as a standard residential package in the UK,” Hoehner said.

The GBP 15 billion ($20 billion) budget in the Warm Homes Plan is expected to support further demand growth, and approximately GBP 5 billion of the total is allocated to fully funded upgrade packages for low-income households.
