Italian grid operator Terna has confirmed that the MACSE electricity storage capacity auction for 2029 delivery will take place on Nov. 24, with admission requests accepted from July 7 to 27.

The auction targets a precautionary storage requirement of 16 GWh for 2029 delivery, approved by Italy’s Ministry of Environment and Energy Security. It follows the first MACSE round held on Oct. 1, 2025, which procured 10 GWh of capacity under 15-year contracts for delivery in 2028.

Terna has set out a full procedural timeline. Admission requests must be submitted through the MACSE portal between July 7 and 27. Storage system qualification data and documentation must be uploaded by Sept. 10, following Terna’s confirmation that the admission request is valid. The pre-auction security deposit and storage system declarations must be submitted by Oct. 20.

Companies with registered offices outside the European Union must submit an affidavit alongside their admission request, as well as documentation confirming the signatory holds authority as legal representative.
