Ingeteam launches modular storage platform with up to 9.1 MVA of grid-forming capacity
Spanish inverter manufacturer Ingeteam has unveiled a new power conversion platform for battery energy storage systems (BESS) that offers up to 9.1 MVA of capacity in a modular, scalable architecture.
The company said the new platform is designed for utility-scale projects and allows developers to configure each installation with between three and eight conversion blocks per power station, improving alignment between power converters and battery containers.
Ingeteam said one of the platform’s key features is its power density, with up to 9.1 MVA housed in a transportable standard 40-foot shipping container configuration. Each station can incorporate up to eight independent power modules, which the company said enhances operational availability.
The platform includes grid-forming functionality as standard, without requiring additional external equipment. Ingeteam said the system maintains full rated capacity in both grid-following and grid-forming modes, without derating.
The solution is designed for medium-voltage networks ranging from 11 kV to 40.5 kV and is available in both skid-mounted and pad-mounted configurations. It is also compatible with SF6-free ring main units.
The company said the integrated power station design is intended to simplify installation and reduce civil works and assembly costs. The system includes up to two bidirectional storage inverters with a maximum of eight power modules, an oil-cooled step-up transformer, medium-voltage switchgear, an oil containment system, and auxiliary equipment.
The platform is available in four configurations: 3400 FSK M, 4500 FSK M, 6800 FSK M, and 9000 FSK M, with charge and discharge capacities of 3.4 MW, 4.5 MW, 6.8 MW, and 9.1 MW, respectively. The lower-capacity models incorporate a single inverter, while the 6.8 MW and 9.1 MW versions include two inverters. Each module can deliver up to 950 A at 1,500 V DC.
The equipment is designed to operate in temperatures ranging from -20 C to 60 C, extendable to -40 C with an optional heating kit. It can also be deployed at altitudes of up to 3,000 meters and in environments with relative humidity of up to 100% without condensation.
The platform incorporates step-up transformers for voltages of up to 36 kV and has a peak efficiency of more than 99.5%, according to Ingeteam. It is available with 24 kV or 36 kV medium-voltage switchgear and complies with international standards including IEC 62271, IEC 60076, and IEC 61439.
Ingeteam said the platform is suitable for applications ranging from short-duration storage to long-duration energy storage (LDES) systems with discharge durations of between two and 12 hours.
The company recently introduced a high-density string inverter for utility-scale solar projects.
