Italy’s Ministry of Environment and Energy Security (Mase) has issued final authorization decrees for two battery energy storage system (BESS) projects with a combined capacity of 298 MW.

The larger project, authorized under Decree No. 146/2026, will see Italy-based Energy Total Capital develop a 198 MW BESS installation in San Severo, in the southern Puglia region, through its subsidiary Energy Total Capital BESS San Severo.

Under Decree No. 147/2026, Field Bisaccia, a subsidiary of London-based Field, received approval to build a 100 MW storage facility spanning the municipalities of Bisaccia and Andretta in the Campania region.

The latest approvals follow a series of recent authorizations issued by Mase. Last week, the ministry cleared five additional BESS projects totaling 514.6 MW, after approving another five battery storage systems with combined capacity of 310 MW in May.
