Italy approves 720 MW of battery storage projects across five regions
Italy’s energy ministry has issued six authorization decrees for standalone battery energy storage system (BESS) projects totaling 720 MW across five regions.
UK developer Lightsource BP, through subsidiary Lightsource Renewable Energy Italy SPV 21, received authorization for the 100 MW Galatina 2 BESS project in the municipalities of Galatina and Aradeo, in the southern region of Puglia.
Field Melfi, a subsidiary of London-based Field, secured approval for a 200 MW battery storage project in Melfi, in the Basilicata region.
Milan-based ACL Energy, through subsidiary ACL SPV, received authorization for the 136 MW Arcole BESS project in the municipalities of Arcole and San Bonifacio, in the Veneto region.
Osco Agri Solare, a subsidiary of Vexuvo, was authorized to build the 84 MW Rotello BESS project in the municipality of Rotello, in the Molise region.
Sphera Energy received two separate authorizations through project company Sphera Mistral. The approvals cover the 100 MW Manciano Tafone A and 100 MW Manciano Tafone B battery storage projects, both located in the municipality of Manciano, in Tuscany.
The latest approvals follow MASE’s authorization last week of a 99 MW battery storage project in Molise. In June, the ministry approved 10 battery energy storage projects totaling about 1.1 GW.
