Italy approves 310 MW of battery storage projects

The Italian government has approved four battery energy storage projects totaling 310 MW in Puglia and Emilia-Romagna, including developments by Starlight Energy, Engie and Boca Solar.

Italy’s Ministry of Environment and Energy Security (MASE) has issued authorization decrees for four battery energy storage system (BESS) projects totaling 310 MW across the regions of Puglia and Emilia-Romagna.

The largest project is the 180 MW Energy Storage San Vito facility in Galatina, Puglia, which will be developed by NPD Italia II, a subsidiary of Starlight Energy.

MASE also approved Engie Cancarro, a subsidiary of Engie, to build the 30 MW Troia BESS project in Troia, Puglia.

In Emilia-Romagna, Boca Solar subsidiary Fossoli Storage secured approval for two 50 MW projects in Carpi: BESS Fossoli Nord and BESS Fossoli Sud.

The latest approvals follow four battery storage projects totaling 472 MW authorized last week in Puglia and Basilicata. In June, MASE approved 10 battery storage projects with a combined capacity of about 1.1 GW.
