German TSOs introduce maturity-based procedure for grid-scale battery storage connections
The new procedure replaces the previously applicable first-come, first-served principle for grid connections of large plants with a capacity of 100 MW or more. The initial information and application phase is scheduled to begin on April 1. Any pending grid connection requests will be transferred to the new procedure.

SMA receives first certificate for grid-forming battery inverter with instantaneous reserve
SMA claims to be the first company in Germany to receive confirmation of the technology. It paves the way for use in projects that want to participate in the new instantaneous reserve market, due to start in 2026.

Behind-the-meter deployments set to lead Brazilian energy storage by 2034
A new study estimates the Brazilian battery market could attract BRL 77.2 billion ($14.2 billion) investment and accumulate 71.8 GWh of storage capacity within nine years. Installations without grid feed-in could account for 45% of the market, followed by the capacity reserve market-driven and off-grid installations. The study did not consider transmission and distribution and distributed-generation market potential.
EDF signs revenue deal with Elements Green, launches consultation with PS Renewables
Elements Green to receive guaranteed revenue from EDF for 720 MWh BESS in England. The deal provides further revenue certainty for Staythorpe BESS, which previously secured a 15-year capacity market contract. EDF also plans to launch a public consultation with PS Renewables in September for a proposed solar and storage development with a 500 MW grid connection.

Germany adds almost 4.59 GWh of battery storage already this year
Analysis by pv magazine shows almost 2.1 million battery storage systems are now in operation in Germany. The latest figures for this year are 362,537 systems with a power output of around 2.6 GW and a cumulative storage capacity of 4.59 GWh.
