Swiss battery maker targets German grid with 40+ battery storage projects
In a collaboration with Münchner Solarkraftwerke, Lion E-Mobility AG, the Swiss manufacturer of lithium-ion battery packs, aims to deliver more than 40 energy storage projects, ranging from 5 to 150 MW, by 2028. These projects will be implemented as both stand-alone and co-located solutions.
The cooperation is between a subsidiary, Lion Smart Production, and Münchner Solarkraftwerke, a company specializing in the implementation of PV and battery storage projects.
A spokesperson for Lion confirmed to pv magazine Germany that the pipeline already includes more than 40 projects, with PV-coupled and stand-alone battery energy storage systems (BESS) ranging from 5 to over 150 MW. Grid connection for these projects is planned between 2026 and 2028. The company declined to comment on the total investment amount and said storage will be both with
Each BESS project will utilize Lion Smart’s own battery storage systems, equipped with inverters and PCS. These large-scale batteries are intended not only for the interim storage of solar power but also to provide lucrative grid services. “This opens up a market with significant revenue potential,” Lion stated.
Consequently, the Swiss company anticipates that the 40 projects in the pipeline will become a key revenue driver in the short to medium term.
“By combining our battery storage technology with the project development expertise of Münchner Solarkraftwerke, we are laying the foundation for a scalable business model with considerable growth potential,” said Joachim Damasky, CEO of Lion E-Mobility.
