Matrix Renewables plans another 407 MWh Spanish battery

The Lagerung project, in Girona, comes in addition to the developer’s Perdiguero and Visenta projects, both in Huesca, which have the same 102 MW/407 MWh scale.

The Matrix Renewables Spanish investment platform, backed by TPG Rise, is planning a 101.8 MW/407.3 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) in Girona. The Lagerung BESS’ 104 lithium-ion battery containers will each have 3.92 MWh of storage capacity.

The project will be built in the municipality of Sant Juliá de Ramis, in the Gironés region, and its evacuation infrastructure will also affect the municipality of Vilademuls in the Pla de l’Estany region, also in the province of Girona.

Matrix is already developing the Perdiguero and Visenta BESS, in Huesca, each of which will have the same scale as Lagerung.

The Perdiguero standalone BESS has a grid connection limited to 100 MW and 400 MWh storage capacity. That lithium-ion site, in the municipality of Benasque, features 104 Tesla Megapack 2 XL containers, in 52 double blocks, plus 26 transformers. The inverters have alternating-current power of 979 kW.

The Visenta standalone BESS, in the municipality of Sesué, has the same configuration and also offers 400 MWh of four-hour storage capacity.
