Windey Energy plans to invest BRL 100 million over the next five years to set up a BESS factory in Brazil, marking the company’s first dedicated BESS manufacturing facility outside China.

According to the company and the Bahia state government, the factory will be built in the Camaçari Industrial Complex in Bahia state and will have annual production capacity of 1.5 GWh. About BRL 30 million will be invested in the project’s first phase.

Windey Energy said the facility will manufacture and integrate BESS products for the Brazilian and broader Latin American markets. Operations will include system assembly, integration, testing, and commissioning, establishing Bahia as the company’s regional manufacturing hub.

The foundation stone for the factory was laid in June. The Bahia government said the project represents the second phase of Windey’s expansion in Brazil, following the opening of its national office and a research and development center established in partnership with Senai Cimatec in 2025.

The company said it selected Camaçari because of its industrial infrastructure, logistics network, and proximity to major renewable energy generation hubs. It said the investment is intended to strengthen the supply chain for energy storage projects across Latin America.

The announcement comes as Brazil’s energy storage market continues to expand, driven by growing deployment of variable renewable energy and ongoing discussions about the integration of BESS into the country’s electricity sector.

Windey Energy said the new facility will integrate battery energy storage systems but will not manufacture battery cells, which will continue to be sourced from the company’s global supply chain.
