China’s Biwatt Power has launched a new 4.5 kWh sodium-ion battery (SIB) for residential applications.

Dubbed PowerNest R3, the new storage system measures 640 mm x 350 mm x 250 mm and weighs 76 kg.

According to the manufacturer, up to four modules can be stacked together for a total storage capacity of 18 kWh, and up to four stacks can be connected in parallel for a total of 72 kWh.

“Our R3 was the first SIB pack to receive CE certification and has already been successfully installed in Germany,” the company said in a statement. “Following a series of positive feedback and growing market demand, we further optimized and upgraded the product.”

The battery has reportedly a lifetime of 5,000 cycles, with a rated voltage of 45 V and an operating voltage of 33-59.5 V.

The IP65-rated product is designed to stand on the floor. It uses natural convection for cooling and can handle up to 95% of relative humidity.

“Its operating temperature is -30 C to +55 C, with no extra heating system, and it is resilient for grid break-out,” the company added. “It also supports 0V charging & discharging, long-term storage, and standby.”
