TagEnergy commissions France’s largest battery storage project
TagEnergy has commissioned its first operational asset in France, a 240 MW/480 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) in Cernay-lès-Reims.
As battery storage deployment gathers pace in France, the developer has launched commercial operations at the project, which is now the country’s largest operating BESS. Located in the Grand Est region, the facility has more than twice the capacity of France’s second-largest operational battery storage system.
The asset is jointly owned by TagEnergy and Banque des Territoires. It was developed using Tesla Megapack technology in partnership with French transmission system operator RTE, regional utility SICAE de la Somme et du Cambrésis, and local authorities including the municipality of Cernay-lès-Reims and the Greater Reims urban community.
Franck Woitiez, chief executive officer of TagEnergy France, said the project marks the company’s first operational asset in the French market and reflects its long-term commitment to developing the energy storage capacity needed to support the country’s energy transition.
France’s battery storage sector has expanded rapidly in recent years, with installed capacity growing from less than 50 MW five years ago to about 1.5 GW at the beginning of 2026.
